Great excitement to see the snow. Dont know who was more excited, me or the dogs! Left for Brecon Beacons National Park before sunrise. Wanted to watch the sun rise at the snowy peaks. This is a great walk, whether you just want a leisurely stroll around the forest at Garwnwnt Visitor Centre or follow the path on to the mountains. usually ponies and plenty of sheep to keep you company. This walk also has a bonus Trig pillar at the summit of Cadiar fawr (the big chair), the view from here is spectacular! There are also some interesting features at Cadair Fawr. Near the summit is cairn. There is also prehistoric hut circles at the north slopes and a group of medieval or later house platforms east of the summit. You'll see quite a few shake holes around, take care but they are on the OS maps. There is a £2 parking charge at Garwnant visitor centre. Well worth it as there is a cafe and toilet facilities. There is a large play area for children and some fantastic wood carvings, which are at the centre and along the footpaths to the forest. Alternative parking would be on the A4059 road from Hirwaun. There are lay-bys where you can park, then just a short walk to the summit of Cadair Fawr.
