The walk starts at layby on the mountain road Llanwonno. The second junction after Saint Gwynno Church, Llanwonno, grid reference 51.653219, -3.413379. There is ample room here for two cars, but do not block the entrance to the barrier.
The route is straight forward and pretty much on the flat the whole way. The terrain is forestry road, so a great walk even in bad weather as you won’t get muddy. It is just under a mile and a half to the trig pillar and only a slight incline to reach the pillar.
At the barrier continue onto the forestry track for approximately a mile. There are no views along this track, as you are walking along side pine trees. However it is still a really pleasant walk. There are a few fire corridors along the track that you can get a glimpse of an occasional view.
There are tracks along the main path that you can turn left. At the fourth track take the turning left and head up and around the small area of pine trees.
. It’s now the views start to open up as you look over to Ferndale.
As you loop around the corner you will reach a fence. Turn right at the fence and follow the track until you see the gap in the fence. Walk through the gap and the trig pillar is straight in front of you.
